Our Faculty

At Michigan Medicine, we are proud to have over 30 Med-Peds trained faculty. As hospitalists, primary care physicians, and subspecialists, they are integral in the care of our patients and training of our residents.

Our robust network of Med-Peds faculty are eager to mentor and guide our trainees. We take a very personal approach with all of our residents. From the time you interview, join our program, graduate and beyond, we aim to understand your needs and help you meet your professional and personal goals.

As an intern, you will start by being paired with a primary continuity clinic preceptor and meeting with the Program Director and an assigned Assistant Program Director on a regular basis. From there, we link you with other faculty and peers for further career, profession and life advising and mentoring to meet your specific needs.

Our attrition rate is one of the lowest in the country, and can be attributed to the mentoring and role modeling of our Med-Peds faculty, extensive involvement of our Program Directors in your education, and strong support from the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

"I have lived in Ann Arbor and its vicinity since 1994, all of my adult life, and consider it my second home. I love the culture and diversity, and especially the academic atmosphere the town provides. One of the reasons I stayed in Michigan is the U of M Graduate Library, which is, without a doubt, one of the best in the world. I have been exploring it since I was an undergraduate student in 1994."

Most of all, it’s the shared sense of mission to provide patients with the best care possible and to provide high-quality education to health care providers. I love seeing smart, motivated, thoughtful people finding creative solutions to the various problems our patients and families are faced with. It’s a great place to work."

“After a move from California, I completed residency at University of Michigan and fell in love with Ann Arbor. I decided to take a job at the Canton Health Center in Primary Care which was the site of my continuity clinic during residency. The collaborative environment, the diversity of patients, ability to work with trainees, and the robust subspecialty support make Michigan Medicine a wonderful place to practice primary care.”

"I chose to stay on as faculty at Michigan Medicine after doing 5 years of training here, first as a Med-Peds resident and then as a Sports Medicine Fellow. I admired the faculty mentors that I had learned from as a trainee and knew they would be the type of colleagues that I would enjoy working with and continuing to learn from. I was thrilled when I was able to stay at the site of my residency and fellowship continuity clinic.  My favorite things about Michigan Medicine include the variety of my practice and the people I get to work with every day – my fellow physicians as well as all of the support staff, including the medical assistants, nurses, and clinic leads without whom I would not be able to do my job!"

"I find that UM is a balanced academic center in ways that others are not, and a great place to work as a junior faculty member. With regards to the Med-Peds axis, few places have both incredibly strong Internal Medicine and Pediatrics departments and UM is an exception in that respect. With regards to the tripartite mission (patient care, research, & education), UM is also well balanced, which is very rare! Look only to the discrepancy between the US News and World report rankings (heavily reputation/research weighted) and the Medicare hospital performance rankings (purely performance based, such as mortality rate for cardiac admissions). UM is one of the only places on both lists! Finally, all this means little to a trainee if an institution doesn't take these strengths into their education efforts as well. UM succeeds in this front as well, and as a medical trainee here I would be hard-pressed to think of an interest, be it in patient care or biological sciences, that could not be met by training here."

"I was drawn to the University of Michigan Med-Peds residency program by the community of residents and faculty that have helped me develop into the physician that I am today. I have stayed on as faculty at Michigan Medicine because of the support in balancing caring for adults and children, while having the opportunity to work with and learn from such remarkable students, residents, fellows, and faculty colleagues."

"I completed my residency in Med-Peds here in 2009. I came here for residency because I loved the supportive environment and felt this institution would not only provide an excellent clinical training in both medicine and pediatrics, but would also be an environment in which I would thrive personally. I have stayed here as faculty since that time as it has allowed me to grow my career in quality and education while still practicing both internal medicine and pediatrics with people who I truly enjoy working with each day!"
